i moved here 7 years ago and cannot believe the way they "fix" roads. and "plow" roads in the winter...i think the boys need to go take a refresher course on how to fix roads...its a disgrace

That's really unfortunate; I hope that he wasn't hurt. It is also too bad that, after 50 years, you have decided to leave. We have only been here for less than five years, and I have questioned my decision many times.

When did you notice that things were really changing for the worse?

Don't blame the workers who fix the holes. If they were given the proper material, equipment, time and money they would fix things properly they would. I think they are just as upset as everyone else, if not more upset. Remember that they would like to do a job they could be proud of instead of patching the patch that failed last time over the patch that...well you all get the picture.
Now as for the solution...not so easy but in the long term far more economically sensible...take portions of roads and completely rebuild them. But of course make sure all the gas, sewer and water and other utilities are upgraded first so you don't have to dig everything up six months later like PA usually does. If done based on priorities of roads then eventually the city will have all new roads and they will not need work for a lot of years. But this requires a lot of capital budget and a commitment to a long term plan and until the taxpayers make it a priority to the city it just won't happen. Most people want silly things like field houses and arts centers instead of good roads.

Guarantee you if that pothole was on the property of the field house it would be done correctly.

I would think most people would step over the potholes rather than stepping in them, but that just me.

I agree with moving out of that dump! we moved 2 years ago, after living there for 50 plus years and it was the best decision we ever made! I agree this USED to be a nice city ...sadly no more! And there is a lot more than potholes that need to be fixed and sorry a sign welcoming people to the city just doesn't do it. what a joke.

You know - Prince Albert still IS a great place to call home. If you think otherwise, I don't think you get out much. And if you find it a "garbage dump", then grab a garbage bag and go pick some of it up!

Yes - we have our problems. There are problems everywhere you go. Do you look at the negatives, or the positives? If you spend a lot of time worrying about what's wrong, you'll never see what's right. Prince Albert is a friendly little city where people are helpful and kind. Yes, there are bad apples. Yes, we have some poor drivers (no one who posts on paNOW, though I'm sure!) and an insufficient tax base to provide a golden clad standard of living. BUT!! We have good schools, good amenities, low population density, clean air and water and rarely need fear any natural disasters beyond the occasional blizzard or plow wind.

We have it pretty damned good here, and if you think you can do better elsewhere then I wish you good luck, and advise you not to let the door hit you on the rear end on the way out.

Like potholes are the only reason to regret moving to Prince Albert...

i don't walk on the streets enough to trip over big pot hole, and if i did have to, i usually look where i am going ,,i tend to use the sidewalks, safer, here, in Saskatoon or Regina, or Edmonton, or Shellbrook,,they all have some potholes

Mark Warner, you are right that Prince Albert is a great place to call home. However, lately the pothole, the crime, the raising housing market, and unsightly look of our downtown area has been getting worse!!!! The good part about it is that all this can be changed to the good. If you see garbage on the ground (not needles) pick it up and throw it out, police can start patrolling the downtown area and high crime areas allot better (even think of increasing the police staff), vote for someone who can change this city instead the person who is doing the crappy job(did you see the park that was named after him - worst looking park in town), and finally beauty is in the eye of the beholder if you don't like what PA has become MOVE to your Utopia (good luck your standards are too high).

maybe IF god forbid he DID get hurt, and went after the city, do you think theyd finally pull their heads out of their rears and learn to do it properly instead of worrying about the damn field house

funny, do you notice a trend? infrastructure named after a Local individual are becoming White Elephants!

I have heard that the Arts center, and the Field house have received FAR LESS than 50% of all their pledges, and the Art Hauser Center has received just over half...

I wish the City would be transparent and show us the numbers!

Ian Moone, that's great advice! Also, I remember driving by that disgraceful looking little park, and wondering why something with the mayor's name on it would look so shabby. I haven't seen it lately, so hopefully it has improved. At least some of the potholes have been patched up recently.

I just walked through Scarrow Plaza, and it looks pretty good after all. Unfortunately, the lots east of the park are a real eyesore, including the old Bank of Commerce Building. But, the topic was about potholes, so believe it or not, the sidewalk on 1st Ave West was full of deep potholes and broken concrete. Oh, I get it; nobody in their right mind would walk down that street anyway. But I did, and I did not like what I saw, Mr. Scarrow.

To the people who are so negative about Prince Albert, how many hours of volunteerism have you put in in the time you lived there? How many bags of garbage did you pick up, just because you wanted your neighborhood to be clean, how many hours of volunteerism in volunteer coaching of our young girls and boys? How many hours have you spent working with disadvantaged kids? I'll bet you moved somewhere where you are just a number so that nobody asks anything of you.

The volunteers in this community do a wonderful job, and we are fortunate to have so many caring people willing to devote their precious time to good causes. However, I believe this issue is more about the failure of the City to manage and maintain the infrastructure, such as roads, bridges, sidewalks, and water works. These are beyond the scope of volunteerism, and when these structures start to collapse, then residents have a right to complain about it.
