However, bicycle lanes are going to be installed on Crescent St. by the end of June. Currently, there are bike lanes on Crescent St from Fitch St. to Ella T. Grasso Blvd. They will extend from the Blvd. to the other end of Crescent St @ the intesection with Goffe.

You can't have the bike lane without a method of slowing traffic. Cars fly right through there and adding bikes to the mix will increase the chances of an accident. Speed bumps would be a start, but make sure that they are well marked. Since kids tend to take those as a challenge, rather than an obstacle, it might need some augmentation like street ridges.

Speed bumps are a huge mistake. They are loud (ask the folks over on W. Park who have had some of them removed at $50k a piece!) and they are horrible for your car. I'm not opposed to a circle, although the cost seems crazy. Crescent is a fairly major street, it's unfortunate but true that people drive fast(er) on major streets.

Bike lanes were painted over the weekend on Crescent St. They now extend the full length of the street on both sides. The segment between Fournier St and Ella T Grasso Blvd were painted with shared lane markings due to the reduced lane width as a result of addional travel lanes for drivers navigating through this paticular section.

Thank you Dept.of Traffic and Transportation for the City of New Haven. I also pleased that you responded so quickly and did a great job with the painted bike lane on Crescent. I did indeed see it this past weekend and felt so pleased for everyone that bikes or drives down that street. But what we still DO NEED is the traffic circle at the corner of Crescent and Munson which will considerably slow traffic down for that section of Crescent where many drivers use it like it is a racetrack. Or if you don't put a traffic circle there then we will need a traffic signal at that very dangerous intersection. The Athlectic Center and Hillhouse H.S. get so much use through the year that I a very surmised that nothing has been done yet at that corner.

Again thank you and the City of New Haven for getting those bike lanes in on Crescent. A job very well done!

The idea that a traffic circle costs $500K, or a speed hump costs $50K, is incorrect.

If you study the experience of Seattle (which has installed thousands of traffic circles) and other cities, the figures are often less than 1/10th of that.

Our government needs to stop "scaring" people about what traffic infrastructure costs, and delaying projects for years or even decades. The level of misinformation that comes out of City Hall is truly astonishing. These projects can be accomplished within a week and at almost no cost if the correct solution is used.

The bike lanes are a GREAT addition to Crescent Street - thank you, TT&P. The next step in terms of making this key route to SCSU truly bike-friendly, though, would be to bring the traffic lanes all the way from Goffe to Fitch down to one-lane in each direction, with buffered bike lanes on either side. There appears to be plenty of street-width to accommodate this and I have not seen traffic volumes warranting two lanes in each direction. The section where folks currently speed the most - west of Fournier - is where there is no protection for cyclists save for the sharrows. As for a traffic circle or roundabout at Crescent & Munson, that would be great, too and would slow traffic down in this dangerous curve.
