The Park is maintained by the City, and has been cleaned up since Irene and then again after Sandy. The pier in Ft Hale Park is owned and maintained by the State DEEP. We are meeting with the State and will push to find out their plans for this pier.

I will put this as acknowledged and in the "Parks Request" category, taking responsibility for the City to communicate what we learn from the State and to push them to resolve.

We (the City) met with officials from the State DEEP and discussed the pier. The State is reviewing options for the pier and hopes to give the City a decision on their course of action in the next few weeks, according to our latest correspondence.

I've assigned myself to this issue so that I can tack and it won't fall back through the cracks. Thanks to the efforts of Sen. Looney the Pier will be transferred from the State to the City and the renovation has been funded. If you have thoughts on what a new pier should include feel free to use this thread to share for the design teams consideration.

Just an update. After months of design, permitting and bidding construction starts this week. We anticipate five to six months for completion and are planning on an "official" opening on the first day of fishing season April 12th (noting that while time is best for fresh water fishing, it seems an appropriate time to celebrate completion)

The fishing pier has been completed and is open for public access. Watch this season for more improvements including benches, water and a more accessible approach.
