The Bear is looking for food,If you want him to leave the area get in touch with your neighbors and make sure no one is leaving bird feeders/pet food/trash outside.Also if you happen to be in a group you can yell and chase him/her off.(It will run away if it's alone and you are not)In some parks they use dogs and paintball guns to run off stray bears.Basicly the idea is to not make your neighborhood a place bears like to be.

I am sure the bear is looking for food but it should not be in a residential neighborhood. They are a true nuisance, whether in the country but especially in the city. It should be removed and placed in a space where he can roam and live as a bear should, and not scavenge.
Basically our neighborhood has copious amount of woods around us which is a natural environment for him....let's see wildman, if your 3-year-old is running around on the edge of the woods squealing and the bear pops his head up and looks down at him lets see how tolerant you'd be for letting him roam in YOUR neighborhood.

I'm sorry for the misunderstanding.I was not suggesting that you let the bear wander around the neighborhood.What I was suggesting is that if you leave it to the authorities to "FIX" the issue then this will not be the last bear in your neighborhood.Take a cue from areas frequented by bears. Your online look up what other towns do.Now with that said I'm sure the bear considers people moving into a copiously wooded area as a nuisance to him secondly bears scavenge thats what they do the idea is to not provide ANYTHING for him to scavenge on.Thirdly I now live well within the city of Kingston no woods there and oddly enough no bears either.However I am familiar with the animals and I spend a LOT of time in the forest and I know that you can pro actively with the help of your neighbors get this bear to leave peacefully on his own.

lol, seriously, we have bears in these here hills, it's not a surprise or terribly alarming. Just teach your children how to act (or not act) when they see one (google it) and use precautions and preventative measures. They really just want food and sometimes are lost when they are first kicked out of their dens at around 15 months.

Bear has moved on.
