If you are making a left, you have to stop. If you are making a right, you dont. It takes a bit of concentration when approaching the intersection, not sure if a 3 way stop sign would eliminate the drivers too lazy to figure out whos' turn it is, also would slow up the right turners who do not need to stop, which would back up that intersection during peak hours.
A light would fix that but dont blame locals who would not want that.
the issue is people who turn right by pass the line waiting to turn left. also the stop sign on burmont does not say only stop when turning left it is a full stop but no one follows it
Traffic light is too dangerous at intersection due to poor sight distance on Glendale NB. Studies have been conducted for signal at intersection previously. All-way stop would only cause more congestion at intersection. Only way to fix is to widen and allow for exclusive NB and SB right-turn lanes since they are free movements. This would alleviate backups NB on Glendale.
If anything, there at least needs to be signs on every stop sign alerting drivers that other people don't stop. I have memory of 3 specific incidents where I was nearly hit by someone making a left who didn't realize I don't have to stop if I'm turning right. It's an atrocious intersection, I think a light would be extremely helpful (or maybe just station a cop over there daily, bet that'd prevent a lot of problems)
this is the worst intersection i have ever had to navigate. Is the tonwship waiting for someone to die first? I hope they are the ones sued not the confused driver. You have been alearted.
Already been studied and can't due to dangerous conditions caused by increased queuing on Burmont Road on a steep downgrade, no sight distance to signal and too many conflicting movements. Only real solution is to open the checkbook and purchase right-of-way to widen the intersection, add turning lanes, and increase visibility.
if people observed the posted 25 mph limit on burmont, the sight line and grade issues would not come in to play. they could certainly move the intersection closer to darby creek, widen all lanes, install a light and improve the flow.
A 3-way stop would lessen congestion. The cars turning right would have to wait their turn, and those turning left could safely, predictably turn. The way it is now thy get stuck as others turn right with the right-of-way.
If speed of cars is a concern with a 3-way stop sign, then it's already a problem as-is: you don't know if the car in front of you is going to turn or not until you reach the intersection, so you need to be prepared to stop. Add stop signs at Steele and Friendship, if that's a real issue. But please, this intersection is horrible the way it is now- change it to an all-way stop.
