Most of these 'kids' are over 18, several over 21. HOWEVER the majority still live at home with parents who know what they do, so the blame lies on both parties. I see very, very young kids starting with this stuff in Fair Haven, and with complete permission of the parents, the same parents who buy them mini bikes and mini quads and then allow them to operate these vehicles on the street, going the wrong way, dodging cars, and then hopping on sidewalks in the path of pedestrians. Poor parenting, to put it nicely.

I've seen a child as young as maybe ten(!) years old riding a red and white mini motor bike or "pocket" bike in and around heavy traffic around Atwater/Ferry/Limerick St. area for months now. Where is this child's parent(s)? Is their negligence being addressed by authorities? Neighbors can only do so much.

Thank you FHR, you always have such great information and descriptions. The only way to get anywhere with this is to continue fighting back by calling the police. Unfortunately these riders are like weeds and we wll probably have to keep pulling at them knowing they will continue to come back. Our only recourse is to keep pulling.

You should call that in as a child endangerment call- you may get a better response or better yet any response.

Hey FairHavenRes, could the New Haven Register use your photo? We are writing a story about the illegal dirt bike and ATV riders in the New Haven area.

Also, New Haven, Branford, West Haven, North Haven, North Branford, and Hamden police departments are announcing a joint initiative to curb illegal riding. Press conference is tomorrow (May 22) afternoon.

I don't think that one is my photo; it's probably from Instagram, but I honestly can't remember at this point. Feel free to use it!

FYI from the NewHavenIndependent website "Seven town team up agains dirt bikers" please note New Haven Sgt. Karl Jacobson (pictured), of the Criminal Intelligence Unit, announced that police have learned that dirt bikers plan a Sunday ride in New Haven. He said police are prepared to enforce laws prohibiting dirt bikes on city streets.
