Volunteers Needed:
The City of Kent partners with Kent residents and groups through our Adopt-A-Spot Stewardship program. This highly valued partnership with our Adopters plays a key role in maintaining our City. The City of Kent is accepting applications for new volunteers. The City provides volunteers supplies (bags, safety vests and litter grabbers) for litter pick up events as well as the disposal of any collected trash.

Thank you for keeping an eye on things. As we've discussed in the past this site has a number of jurisdictional limitations that have stopped us from using our standard procedure for these issues. That said, we're working internally to have a large scale response not only in this location but a few others of similar issues. Having images like this is useful in that process and I hope to have an updated timeline for you in the near future.

Hello Reese,

Thanks for sending these in. The City is aware of these issues and has plans to complete a large scale clean up later this summer during upcoming construction. Because of the type of garbage and material it needs to be handled different than standard dumpings.

That said, we recently replaced the construction fencing on site not too long ago in the hope that it would limit people from accessing the site and will be working on having more regular visits to the site to bring greater visibility. I hope this is a good first step in the right direction for this and it's future goals.

Thanks for the updates, the City is in the process of bidding work for a contractor later this summer, which will include the clean up of that location and the installation of more snow fencing on the South side of the road.

This temporary fencing will be replaced by permanent fencing following the completion of the project, and that fencing will be more difficult for people to remove.

The City also has an upcoming meeting with King County to discuss a number of concerns with this site.

Melissa: From the report in the Kent Reporter today is sounds like the subject of this KentWorks request was the homeless camp that burned.

A couple of days ago a City contractor visited the Project site and completed an extensive clean up of the project area. Attached is a picture of one of the areas in question following clean up.

The City is preparing to finish construction at the Downey site later this summer for an extended window, this will mean a lot more activity on site that will hopefully help to maintain the conditions of the site. The City is looking into longer term alternatives to maintain the site in perpetuity.
