I walk a 3 mile loop everyday and have to cross this intersection along the way. I agree that it is dangerous. I run just to get across safely. Maybe instead of a stop sign, an electonic flashing crosswalk that can be activated by the pedrstrian.

The flashing sign on Oakwood by the library has not been helpful to the pedestrians and that is on a flat section with good visibility. People go way too fast o Glen Cove Parkway and a slow moving pedestrian is really at risk. Not all of us are able to run across that road.

Traffic Engineering has done all-way stop studies at this intersection and it has not met the required criteria.

The development that includes the Senior Living Center is required to construct a traffic signal at this intersection. The condition requires that they have the signal constructed in 6 months after notification.

Staff will also request PD Traffic enforcement.

Thank you David Y. for your response. A traffic signal will be even better. You said it has to be done 6 months after notification. Have they been notified, and if so, when?

Can you please check with David Y and let us know when the development/developer was notified that the traffic signal has to be put in within 6 months of notification? The wording above leaves wiggle room in that it says "6 months after notification". I would like to know when the clock started, so to speak.

I am not willing to close this until I receive a response to my question above which is asking when the 6 month countdown started. It's great that a stop light is planned, but it would be very nice to have some idea when it is actually going to happen. Thank you.

No, I do not want to close this issue as has been suggested. It has been two months since I originally reported this. I have learned that the developer has to put in a stoplight at this intersection within 6 months of being notified. I have not been able to get the information as to when they were notified, much less when the stop light has actually been put in. Can someone at the city please tell us the date the notification was given and what the time frame is for actually getting this fixed?

I actually had a car stop while I was in the crosswalk the other day. First time this has ever happened! Normally I feel like I am in the video game "frogger"

It has now been almost 5 months since this thread started. I can not get a response from the city as to when the developer (see thread above) was notified that they are required to put in a stop light at this intersection. There is no point in having the requirement if the city isn't going to enforce it. Are they waiting for a pedestrian to get killed before doing anything? David Y, traffic engineer, can you please nudge the Development staff again and let us know of their answer?

I don't understand why this was closed. The city has already acknowledged (via SeeClickFix) that this intersection doesn't qualify for a stop sign BUT is supposed to have a stop light, paid for by the developer within 6 months of notification. I could never get an information as to whether the city followed through on the agreement with the developer and notified them of the need for a stop light. This is a dangerous intersection for pedestrians since the crossing is relatively blind and cars come down the hill fast. As far as I am concerned the city has been notified of the safety concern and is liable for injuries from their inaction.

On the opposite side of the marina there is no wheelchair or other access off the sidewalk and onto the crosswalk. This makes it even more dangerous. I don’t use a wheelchair but I do cross often with a stroller and you have to “jump” the curb with the stroller.

The speed of traffic makes it treacherous. One misstep of the stroller tire to attempt to get over the curb and you are now caught in traffic on an almost blind turn that people are taking dangerously fast.

If you read the string above, you will see that in April of 2021 the city acknowledges that the developer is supposed to put in a stop light within 6 months of notification. Why is this not being followed through on? It has been about 2.5 years when I first pointed out the problem. Below is from the post of April 2021.

I still use this crosswalk almost daily and it has only gotten more dangerous over the years. I still think the flashing crosswalk would be the best solution but I highly doubt there would be a budget for this.
