  • High Park Toronto, ON - Toronto

Toronto's parks department dumps the excrement from the animals at the High Park Zoo in the middle of the park. The poop does not have a fence around it to sequester it nor is there any sign to warn users of the park about it. The poop pile is very close to a path that people walk along and is also adjacent to the dog off leash area. Because it smells very attractive to dogs and is not fenced, it is very easy for dogs to access the pile. In addition, this is an area that coyotes are sighted and I wonder if the smell of the animal waste is also attracting coyotes. I think that dumping animal excrement in the middle of one of the city's most beautiful parks is both a health and an environmental hazard. Downhill from the pile is a stream that ends up in Lake Ontario and I am concerned about runoff, particularly bacteria parasites such as giardia. I have no objection to composting animal waste but it needs to be done properly in an area that is not accessible to the public. All of the dog owners that I have spoken to think the pile is disgusting and it either needs to be moved or adequately fenced.

I have contacted Sarah Doucette's office, Public Health and the supervisor of High Park about this. No one is taking my concerns seriously. The supervisor of High Park refuses to do anything about the pile because they have been dumping the waste there for decades. They claim that if the area is fenced off the pick up truck will not be able to dump the @#$% there. Shouldn't human health and the environment take precedence over these feeble excuses. Help!

  • 193 Parkside Drive Toronto, Ontario - Toronto

The tree on our front lawn was cut down by the City on June 17, 2013. The City said the stump would be removed and a tree replanted in 4 months. Then 6 months. Then 9 months. Now 311 says the Fall of 2014 which will make that 15 or 16 months since the tree was cut down. Actually, they even showed up the morning of May 1st to our house and said they will be removing it the next day (May 2, 2014) which never happened. The stump takes up a huge portion of front yard and has even lifted our walkway. Also, we are unable to grow any grass because the stump is so large. We understand that because it is on a busy road and is so huge that it may be a difficult job but we are feeling exasperated that they keep breaking promises. We just want to be able to fix our front yard and do some landscaping.

Thanks in advance for any help on this matter.

  • 102-116 Algoma Street Toronto, ON - Toronto

The City of Toronto and Camrost-Felcorp have used this site (300 Manitoba Street at Legion Road-southwest corner) as a dump for dirt dug out of previous condo developments and a repository for soil that the city has used in it's Grand Street Park development. It is an eyesore and toxic soil has been blown around for years on end. Nothing but lip service from Counsellor Grimes office, the city, the developer and the environment ministry. This is urban development gone all wrong.

drivers going eastbound on queensway routinely pile into intersection during yellow to red light transitions blocking southbound traffic on Stephen Dr. from making left hand turn. perhaps a police officer handing out tickets might fix the problem. also related is the traffic light timing reported at the sewage plant and plaza at 125 the queensway. mistimed lights cause traffic to back up like bad plumbing.

this is rediculous and is creating incentive for massive red light running for @#$% off motorists having to wait for one car per light change being able to make that left turn in the morning.

  • Stephen Drive Toronto, Ontario - Toronto
There are two sets of traffice lights on the Queensway very close to each other at Stephen drive and the small mall just to the East. At peak times the lights can turn green for traffic to come out of Stephen drive but if the other lights are at red going East there can be nowhere to turn and it is possible to get stuck on Stephen drive for more than one change of lights. The lights to the mall can also be a red in all directions for non-existent pedestrians, which doesn't help the problem.

The new traffic light in front of the Sobey's plaza has a full 30 seconds allotment for cars that exit the treatment plant. Unfortunatly, there is seldom anybody exiting the plant. Can't the TTMC set the road sensors to activate the green light when there is somebody exiting the plant, otherwise if nobody is there, which is most ofthe time, just pass on it. This causes a huge long line up both east & west on the Queensway for no reason.

Missed our garbage pick up a week ago still haven't picked it up.
Called 311…..nothing but "Give the new company a chance, and we can't do anything but submit a complaint because its a private company."
Called GFC the new company….a promised returned phone call…still waiting...
Called my councillor …he was agreeing with me about the situation was going to copy me on a complaint he was sending…no email yet..?
SOMEONE PLEASE HELP! Raccoons are tearing it up, my neighbours saw rats, I have two little kids that need to play outside the picture doesn't do justice to the smell
Where is my tax money being spent!?!?

The lights at this intersection for some reason give an exclusive right-of-way to the vehicles coming out of the Humber Sewage Treatment Plant. The three other streets are stopped, including vehicles coming out of a busy plaza. Yet as far as I can see, there is very little traffic coming out of the Sewage Treatment Plant. Is there some reason why the occasional vehicle coming out of the Sewage Treatment Plant must be given this exclusive right-of-way?

The roadway is being desecrated by the construction trucks passing throughout this area constantly. They should cover the repair costs. Lakeshore Blvd west from Palace Pier west to Legion Road is an a terrible sate all the time. Similarly Marine Parade Drive.

2146-2178 Bloor St W Toronto, ON - Toronto

    Dear Mr. Fixer,

After contacting the people in charge of trees in the city about the dying trees at 2150 Bloor St. West, I've basically come up against a brick wall. Below is the email that I initially sent them.

Two years ago I contacted the city tree department to let them know that the pine trees at 2150 Bloor W. were under stress because all the earth between the sidewalk and the pharmacy building was covered over in cement. There was no access to any type of water from anywhere other than underground. Of course, I was not contacted and nothing was done.
This year, all the cement was dug up between the tree planter boxes and the building which seemed to go on for months. I noticed that the two trees were actually dying this time so I contacted 311 and the woman told me an inspector would be sent out within a two month period (which will be too late to save these poor trees.) The reference # for the inspection is 1688602.
I’m so annoyed that nothing was initially done and now that supposedly a second work permit was issued to dig up half the rooting system of the trees is beyond me. Does anyone care about, inspect or do anything to actually save these trees?
Just so you know, I’m sending the same photos and a good portion of this letter to The Fixer section of the Toronto Star. Perhaps they will have more clout than me in getting my issue addressed about these dying trees.

    Regards,

    David Miller

Below is the response I had from the tree department.

As previously mentioned it is the responsibility of the owner/developer to deal with these issues. He has applied but is still working through with his plans for the site.

It is unfortunate, that there has been such a delay in both removing and replacing these trees by the owner. I will have the site inspect to review what is happening.

These responses are totally unacceptable and I'm hoping you can help in trying to save these two wonderful trees. Included are photos showing the location and the extent of the damage. If you can do anything to help, I would be most grateful.
