Don't expect much from the Public Works Department on this, we have asked for a light or anything for that matter on the 700 block of West Morgan Street where you have to cross 3 lanes of high speed traffic (speed limit is 25 but most cars are going 35-50 through here) and RPD ignores it callously. There is another crosswalk just a couple of blocks up with a red light button, cars still drive through the light when it is red.

Wow. REFJR, Impressive work. As a regular walker in Raleigh, I am seeing some changes in driver behavior around the crosswalks. I think the City's campaign with drivers and crosswalks has increased awareness. Most drivers are respectful of me; BUT at this very same crosswalk a few weeks ago, the first driver stopped for me. A white truck behind her never hit his brakes. He veered to the right into the bike lane and careened on through. Someone trying to get across with young children would have been vulnerable. Hopefully RPD will get a chance to increase his sensitivity with a nice fat ticket.

Shouldn't it be" SeeClickFix is a stupid waste of time"?

SeeClickFix is designed to respond to quick fixes - not issues that require dedicated budget spending like putting in new lights for a crosswalk, but the city council has approved more than 90% of the recommendations of the Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Commission.

I would hope that the BPAC monitors SeeClickFix to see if they are on target as to what citizens are seeing and thinking. Another source of information to improve their recommendations.

Well I do, but that e-mail address forwards to every commissioner's personal e-mail, so anything sent there gets seen by all of us. The majority of the commission are cyclists first, so we need more vocal pedestrians to help push those issues.

City has completely fubared all the crosswalks along hillsborough st lately.

I waited at the bus stop next to the YMCA on Friday, Feb 22 during the afternoon rush hour. I was horrified to see drivers repeatedly blow through the crosswalk _while pedestrians were in it_. My heart was in my throat! I really feel for people trying to access the YMCA at this walk. Some Raleigh PD enforcement might go a long way to helping here, since the same commuting drivers move through here at the same time each day.

The whole Hillsborough Street is a complete F up now.
I'd like to see just how much the redesign has forced traffic to move from Hillsborough St to Western Blvd.

@TriangleTransitCommuter, that was the whole point of the redesign.

There is a physical median and signage being installed here at this time. This should make the crosswalk more prominent and encourage drivers to be more careful here.

@ David, that's why I would like to see some data on how much the redesigned as lessened traffic on Hillsborough Street and shifted the traffic to Western. I'd be willing to bet that it hasn't. Hillsborough Street is worse than ever.

I'd also like to say Thank You to the City of Raleigh for installing the pedestrian crosswalk island. This should help keep cars from passing the buses in the turn lane when they are stopped at the Y.
