This has been going on for weeks. Why is allowed to continue to create a rodent issue. The van does not have a current lic. plate registration.

Mr Britt, the van you are talking about has current Lic. plates through July 2020. I have checked this location on 2 prior dates and found the area to be clean with no violations found.Photos of area were taken. It is not illegal to live in your vehicle (especially in these trying times). When I spoke to park district employees across the street (responsible for cleaning up that block), they did not find any garbage problems there either. I will go back and check again. I have seen this van and this man throw garbage onto the parkway. The man is emaciated, is usually shirtless in cold weather and needs help. I have also seen people cleaning up after him.

Mr. Slywczuk , I will call you each time I see the gentleman place bags of garbage out along with a bucket of waste. I hope you will then respond and go to the site. You may want to check recent : 311 reports ( with photos) by a number of people, along with 911 complaints ( 2) I know of, four letters to the Department of Family Services , several to the Tribune asking for assistance for this man. Multiple city service complaints, by a number of individuals filed through the 46th ward office . In this time of a serious " pandemic" I would hope the " health of the general public" and the guidelines that have been mandated by the governor would be followed. . The sidewalk and park area adjacent to the van are used by at least a one hundred people each day, Walkers, bikers, and now with spring more activities will be taking place.All are at risk.

I went there again this morning at 8:30 a.m. This time I brought the police with me. There was no garbage dumped around the van or parkway. No bucket was found with any human waste. Check the vehicle it had current license plates until July 2020, current city sticker into 2021 , and insurance for the vehicle. I talked with the officer and here is nothing the police can do at this time. I suggested that he move to another area away from Clarendon Park. I took pictures and will be back every day with follow up pictures, to document the vehicle not being moved. And try to get it posted for a tow, along with possibly posting a special street cleaning to get him ticketed if not moved. Lets see if he finally moves like he said he would, that would be the quickest and easiest solution.

Additional information on the H/M living in the van on the 4400 block of Marine Drive. I talked with his retired father this morning at the van. He is the one that has been coming here every day to clean up around the van and bring his son food. The vehicle was towed away this morning by his father for repairs, while his son had left the van for an errand. I asked that he find a different location to park the van after it is fixed. The son stated that he would stay at the location until his father picks him up in approx. 2 to 3 days. With confidentiality issues, that is all I can share.
