People run lights in New Haven because the lights are not synchronized and when they miss a light they have to wait forever for a new green. Its too bad the city won't update its urban management - this problem has been abated in other cities with better urban planning, where the goal is to keep traffic moving instead of to keep it stopped. You can ticket these drivers all you want, but the underlying issue is road rage, which can only be addressed by infrastructure changes. And the city wants no part of that.

i agree better urban planning would work. just table/raise the crosswalks on the cross streets, add some serious bump outs and stop signs and the light becomes totally unnecessary. the city could save millions doing this at intersections like this one. simple.
